Melanotan I is a linear alpha-MSH analog with norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7, which resists serum enzymes. In laboratory work it is a potent MC1 receptor agonist, raising tyrosinase activity in melanoma cells and NR4A gene expression in melanocytes.
